2nd Grade

Mrs. Kierce

I'm an Ann Arbor Public Schools graduate from Dicken, Slauson and Pioneer. My family has been a part of this community for a long time and owned a store downtown, originally opened in 1910. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a B.S. in Elementary Education and an Early Childhood Education endorsement. I'm currently pursuing my masters in TESOL at Western Michigan University. I love spending time with my family and staying busy as a mom of two boys.  I also enjoy camping, watching hockey (Go Wings!), golfing, cooking and staying active.

I am so excited to be back in second grade this year! This will be my third year teaching at Burns Park. Prior to teaching I attended U of M to earn my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Health and Society. I then stayed at U of M to get my Masters in Elementary Education with certification in teaching English as a second language. My absolute favorite part of being a teacher is building relationships with students and I am looking forward to many many more years of teaching. Outside of school I love to spend time with family and friends, be outside and read. I love being a part of the Burns Park community!

My name is Abbey Schuen, and I am so excited to be teaching 2nd grade this year at Burns Park Elementary! I graduated from Hope College with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Early Childhood Education. I love being a teacher because I get to help students grow in understanding, and with understanding comes empathy.

I also have a deep love for animals and nature, and I enjoy bringing that passion into the classroom whenever I can. While this is my fourth year of teaching, it’s my first year at Burns Park and my first time living in Ann Arbor! I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, a place I still love very much, but I already feel incredibly lucky to be part of such a welcoming and supportive school community.

I’m looking forward to a fantastic year full of learning, laughter, and lots of great memories!
